Chief Reed Receives Distinguished Service Commendation

On Thursday, November 17th, Chief Derek Reed was awarded a Distinguished Service Commendation by the Paris Township Trustees, presented by Trustee Chairman Ed Samec.

Colleagues, friends and family of Chief Reed were on site at the Community Center to celebrate his distinguished award that reads…

“Let it be known that on the early morning hours of November 6, 2022, Chief Derek Reed was in route to the Paris Township Fire Station when he observed a suspicious orange glow close to a residence. Chief Reed detoured his travels and responded to the residence to discover an active fire in the yard that was encroaching upon an attached deck and exterior wall of the residence. Chief Reed immediately woke the occupants of the residence as they evacuated and began firefighting operations with a plastic garden rake until Paris Township Fire Department apparatus arrived on scene.

Chief Derek Reed exemplified superior situational awareness and saved lives as well as diverted a structure fire. Chief Reed displayed bravery and courage with his actions while being fully aware of the high potential of imminent personal danger.”

To receive a Distinguished Service Commendation the firefighter must be a member of the department who performs a highly unusual act of distinction under adverse conditions in the performance of duty.

Many thanks for your service and congratulations, Chief Derek Reed!
